PROPELLER REGISTRY
What is PROPELLER
PROPELLER is a national musculoskeletal registry that captures what procedure-defined registries cannot.
PROPELLER (Patient Reported Outcomes for Professional Education, Learning and Research) is the national registry layer connected to OrthoCompass. It aggregates de-identified outcome data from all contributing surgeons, enabling benchmarking from the first case a surgeon contributes, not after years of accumulating their own data.
Where the existing registries answer the question of how long an implant lasts, PROPELLER answers a different question: how are patients doing, across everything their surgeon does? It captures patient-reported outcomes, complications, sub-revision adverse events, and procedure-level clinical data across the full spectrum of musculoskeletal indications with any kind of treatment, including modalities that do not involve surgery.

What PROPELLER stores
The registry retrieves a continuously updated dataset from OrthoCompass with robust routines for recoding (pseudonymisation) identifiers of every stakeholder. These include the patient, the surgeon, the device manufacturer and the facility in which treatment has been undertaken. Analysis-ready, but with protections in place to facilitate routine quality improvement.
Governance
HREC-approved.
PROPELLER holds standing ethics approval and has been audited by the supervising committee. When a research question emerges from your data, the project-specific approval is streamlined so you can get on with the answer.
Pseudonymised.
Patient, provider, facility, and hardware vendor identifiers are all coded within PROPELLER. Practice data is never shared with any third party.
Surgeon-led.
The PROPELLER Registry Advisory Panel comprises peer orthopaedic surgeons overseeing how the registry operates and how data is used.
Independent.
No external party, sponsor or otherwise, has any role in the clinical decision-making of contributing surgeons. Documented in every Participant Agreement.
